Additional tools for monitoring toll payments have been put into operation on the toll roads of Belarus, according to the press center of the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Belarus. The existing system has been enhanced with software based on artificial intelligence technologies, as well as video-recording equipment.
These new tools enable the automatic identification of vehicles whose users have failed to pay the required tolls. The system detects such instances on toll-road sections. This additional oversight is intended to encourage greater driver compliance and ensure adherence to the rules for using toll roads.
One of the objectives of this initiative is to curb the intentional removal of the onboard units used for toll payments. The system is also designed to help eliminate cases where tolls go unpaid.
The solution was developed through the collaboration of several entities: RUE "Beldorsvyaz" (the operator of the Ministry of Transport’s intelligent transport system), the operator of the electronic toll collection system, and the Ministry of Transport’s Transport Inspectorate. Drivers using toll roads should verify in advance that their chosen payment method is functioning correctly and that their onboard unit is installed and used in accordance with the established rules.
