China has launched the first intermodal operation in the country's history using the TIR Carnet, the International Union of Road Transport reports. A batch of auto parts was successfully delivered from central China to Uzbekistan, demonstrating the effectiveness of combining rail and road transport within the framework of a single customs system.
The transportation route was divided into two stages:
1. Railway transport: from Xi'an to Kashgar-Severnaya station (Xinjiang).
2. Motor transport (MDP): through the Irkeshtam border checkpoint to the city of Jizzakh (Uzbekistan).
The key advantage of this approach was the implementation of the Chinese Customs Transit facilitation initiative. The MDP system made it possible to use a single declaration, guaranteed security and sealing of cargo along the entire route. This significantly accelerated transshipment at transit points and reduced overall logistical costs.
Ran Wang, the Chief Representative of the IRU in East and Southeast Asia, stressed that this launch is an important step in the development of the "One Belt, One Road" corridors and strengthening economic ties between China and Central Asia.
