Banana shipments from China to Russia in 2023 amounted to 2.8 thousand tons, from the Republic of Korea - 4.8 thousand tons, from Egypt - 29 tons, from Thailand - 2 tons.
In the future, it is planned to increase supplies from these countries, the Rosselkhoznadzor told TASS.
"In 2023, 2.8 thousand tons of bananas were imported from China to Russia, Korea - 4.8 thousand tons, Egypt - 29 tons, Thailand - 2 tons. The volume of banana supplies from these countries will increase," the ministry noted.
In January 2024, India sent the first batch of bananas to Russia, and supplies will also grow in the future. According to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, India is the world's largest producer of bananas, China ranks second, and Indonesia is third.
At the same time, bananas were not supplied from Indonesia in 2023, the Rosselkhoznadzor clarified.
Earlier, the Rosselkhoznadzor expressed concern about the situation with the supply of unsafe bananas from Ecuador to Russia. The service asked the competent authority of the country to suspend from February 5 the certification of bananas of five Ecuadorian exporters who committed the largest number of violations.
