Construction of a new access road to the freight terminal at the Zabaykalsk international automobile border crossing point (MAPP) is nearing completion in Zabaykalsky Krai, reports FKU Uprdor «Pribaykalye». Crews are working on the section between the 484th and 486th kilometers of the A-350 federal highway (Chita – Zabaykalsk – PRC border).
The new section, running parallel to the existing route, will separate freight and passenger vehicle traffic. This will significantly improve traffic safety and increase the throughput capacity of both the highway itself and the Far East's main border crossing.
Work is in the final stages. The roadbed has been fully constructed, pavement layers have been laid, culverts installed, and drainage ditches prepared. The project also includes a 112-space parking area, an observation deck with an information board, and intelligent transport system components.
The border crossing itself is also being upgraded. Its reconstruction will increase throughput capacity more than fourfold — from approximately 800 to 3,500 trucks per day in both directions. The facility will feature 40 lanes capable of reversible traffic flow to adjust to current traffic loads.
