The first train with containers from China, delivered on the new route "Arctic Express N1", was sent from Arkhangelsk to the Tula region. This is reported by TASS, referring to information from Russian Railways (RZD).
"The first train was sent from Arkhangelsk with containers from China delivered along the Northern Sea Route. Cargo transportation from China is organized as part of the regular Arctic Express N1 service with the participation of Russian Railways. It connects Arkhangelsk and the main ports of China: Shanghai and Ningbo along the Northern Sea Route," the message says.
Russian Railways noted that the first train has 78 containers with car components, it follows from the Solombalka station (Arkhangelsk) to the Tula region. In total, five container ship flights from China to Arkhangelsk and five in the opposite direction are expected in August and September.
"For the delivery of imported goods to the regions of Russia, technologies have been developed for the formation of container trains at 8 stations in the Arkhangelsk region, and special accelerated schedules for their route are provided," the company added.
Russian Railways is developing the Arctic Express N1 project in cooperation with the government of the Arkhangelsk Region and the Chinese company NewNew Shipping Line (Torgmoll). The new route is designed to accelerate and optimize cargo transportation between Russia and China. The Arctic Express N1 connected the main ports of the People's Republic of China with Arkhangelsk along the Northern Sea Route.
In 2023, the first direct flight from Arkhangelsk to Shanghai along the Northern Sea Route with lumber in containers was sent in the last ten years. The Chinese carrier NewNew Shipping Line plans to make ten ship calls for navigation in 2024, which will ensure the regularity of the export-import container line between Russia and China.
