As State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Alexander Volfovich previously stated, the goals of these exercises are exclusively defensive. Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin, in turn, noted that the leadership of NATO countries is trying to use Zapad-2025 as a pretext for holding their own exercises. Thus, the Polish Defense Ministry previously announced military maneuvers with NATO participation in response to Zapad-2025.
Belarus, in turn, expressed its protest against this decision by Poland: "The illegal measures taken by one country actually affect the entire border of the European Union with Belarus, creating significant difficulties for the normal functioning of the international movement of people and goods. This is an obvious abuse of its geographical position, "privatization" of the borders of the EU and the EAEU, the West and the East", - the Belarusian Foreign Ministry stated. This position was also brought to the attention of the Chargé d'Affaires of the European Union in the Republic of Belarus, Sten Nerlov. The European diplomat assured that Poland's actions will be given an appropriate assessment of the proportionality of the measures taken and the real degree of threat.
