The European Union approved its largest sanctions list since 2022: restrictions have been imposed on nearly 1,570 Russian legal entities and individuals. These individual sanctions will be the first part of the upcoming 22nd sanctions package, which is later planned to be supplemented with sectoral bans, according to Trans.ru.
Although the strike targets the defense sector, the sanctions also targeted suppliers of navigation systems, electronics, and the GAZ automobile manufacturer. This is a sensitive development for commercial carriers: vehicles from the Gorky Automobile Plant form the backbone of Russia's light- and medium-duty truck fleet, providing urban and regional delivery services.
Blocking the automaker and related suppliers threatens transport companies with further disruptions in the supply of imported parts, extended repair times, and increased vehicle maintenance costs.
As a result, carriers will have to compensate for the increased cost of maintaining their fleets with higher delivery rates and even more quickly shift to vehicles and components from Asia.
