Denmark is currently a member of the Eurovignette program, which includes the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Sweden and Denmark. But the country plans to exit the Eurovignette system from January 1, 2025 and from that moment will begin to introduce an electronic toll collection system based on the distance traveled, according to the Association of International Road Carriers.
The association's website clarifies that the total rate will depend on the weight category of the vehicle and will vary depending on its CO2 emissions. The fee rates will be higher in low emission zones (LEZ).
Until January 1, 2027, only vehicles weighing more than 12 tons will be subject to a toll fee. After this date, all heavy-duty vehicles weighing more than 3.5 tons will be subject to a toll.
Toll collection will be applied on all public roads in Denmark from January 1, 2028. Until that date, the toll will apply only to the main part of the state and municipal road networks.
It should be borne in mind that the existing rates may change, as there will be hearings on lowering rates. The proposal is expected to be agreed in the autumn, the Association of International Road Carriers informs.
