Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management Robert Thieman confirmed that the Dutch truck tax will be introduced on July 1, 2026, according to BAMAP.
The new tax is planned to replace existing fixed charges, including the transport tax and the Eurovignette. It will be calculated as a variable payment per kilometer traveled.
From the first full tax period after July 1, 2026, trucks up to 12,000 kg will be exempt from the transport tax. For heavier trucks, the MRB rate will be reduced to the minimum European level. The Eurovignette will be abolished in the Netherlands at the same time, but will remain applicable for trips to Luxembourg and Sweden.
The revenue generated by this measure is expected to be used to improve the sustainability of the transport industry: between 2026 and 2030, over €1.8 billion in revenue from the new charge is planned to be allocated to sustainable transport measures.
More detailed information on the new charging system is available in the attached document.
