On October 15, the National Toll Administration launched a new feature for weighing vehicles with a maximum permissible mass over 3.5 tons while in motion: the weigh-in-motion system automatically measures the weight without interrupting the movement, according to BAMAP.
Currently, ten points on the national road network have been certified, where the measuring devices have been calibrated. If an overload is detected, the system automatically records the violation, including data on the total mass, axle load, photographs, and the date, time, and location of the violation.
After the report is generated, the owner or registered user of the vehicle is notified by their national service provider, if such a provider has a contract. After notification, the violator can pay a fine of 1,200 Bulgarian leva, thereby exempting them from administrative liability.
In the event of non-payment of the fine, an electronic fine is issued for the violation. After the fine is issued, the violator has 14 days to pay it or cancel the electronic fine. Failure to pay the fine within this period will result in a fine or property penalty of BGN 3,000 for the first violation and BGN 4,000 for a repeat violation.
Information on registered violations can be found on the NTA website.
Fines can be paid online at on the websites of national service providers, or in cash at kiosks.
