More than 2.5 thousand trucks are currently waiting to enter Georgia through the Verkhniy Lars checkpoint in North Ossetia. As a result, there is a large accumulation of traffic on the roads of the republic, which may become a reason for introducing an emergency situation. This means that transit trucks may be temporarily banned from entering the territory of the region.
According to the Deputy Chairman of the Government of North Ossetia Irbek Tomaev, due to the current situation in the republic, an emergency situation is planned to be introduced. As of the morning of September 16, the queue in front of the Verkhniy Lars checkpoint has increased - almost 2.7 thousand trucks are registered in the system.
Let us recall: last year, the authorities of North Ossetia have already resorted to introducing an emergency situation several times due to a large queue at the border. In order to reduce the risk of accidents, transit trucks were temporarily banned from entering the republic under the state of emergency until the queue at the entrance to the Verkhniy Lars checkpoint shortens and parking spaces become available.
As a result, if the regional authorities resort to the state of emergency this time, it will mean the same thing - that trucks heading to the border will temporarily be unable to enter North Ossetia.
