A Council of Ministers resolution has entered into force in Belarus, restricting the movement of trucks, tractors, and trailers (semi-trailers) registered in Lithuania to the Belarusian-Lithuanian border. Lithuanian truckers currently in Belarus can return home only through border crossings with Lithuania, which remain closed.
"This measure is a necessary response to the unilateral action of the Lithuanian side, which repeatedly and without prior notice closed border crossings on the Belarusian-Lithuanian section of the state border", — the Belarusian government stated.
The Belarusian authorities consider the measure proportionate, justified, and aimed at protecting bona fide participants in foreign trade from the consequences of the unilateral decision of the Lithuanian authorities.
