The State Customs Committee of Belarus reported that monitoring of permits for cargo delivery to Belarus at internal customs clearance points revealed that approximately 10% of shipments are carried out without permits.
In this regard, the State Customs Committee has initiated legislation to formalize the possibility of conducting vehicle inspections within the country, specifically by customs officers directly checking permits.
On January 22, Decree No. 31 of the President of the Republic of Belarus "On Improving the Activities of Customs Authorities" was signed, assigning this function to customs authorities.
The inspection will be carried out on foreign vehicles transporting goods to Belarus from other EAEU countries. Previously, customs authorities could only carry out such inspections at the border.
The provisions of the Decree will enter into force six months after the official publication of the document.
