The countries of the Eurasian Economic Union have completed internal approval procedures for the draft Agreement on permissible Masses, axial Loads and dimensions of vehicles when driving on the highways of the EAEU states included in the Eurasian transport corridors, the Association of International Automobile Carriers reports.
"The implementation of the Agreement will give a significant impetus to both the development of Eurasian transport corridors and the increase in the transit potential of the EAEU as a whole," said Minister of Energy and Infrastructure of the Eurasian Economic Commission Arzybek Kozhoshev.
The discrepancy between the requirements for the weight and overall parameters of vehicles in different countries of the Union is included in the list of restrictions on the domestic market of the EAEU. The adoption of the Agreement will eliminate this obstacle. The draft document sets out the agreements of the parties on taking measures to ensure that the highways included in the Eurasian transport corridors fully meet the requirements for passing vehicles with permissible masses, axial loads and dimensions, which are established by the Agreement.
Trucking is an important element in ensuring trade flows and efficient supply chains. Thus, more than half of the total volume of cargo transportation in the EAEU countries is accounted for by road transport.
The Agreement belongs to the category of international treaties. To begin its operation, it is necessary to sign a document at the government level of the Eurasian Five countries. The signing procedure by the Deputy Prime Ministers of the Union member states of the EEC Council is scheduled for the third quarter of this year.
