The European Commission (EC) rejected Poland's demand to return the permit system for Ukrainian road carriers. This was stated by the European Commissioner for Transport, Adina Valean.
The European Commissioner stressed that the EC is working to resolve the crisis at the border, but the responsibility lies directly with the border countries. At the same time, according to Valean, some of these states "evade responsibility." The European Commissioner said that the situation with Ukrainian drivers raises great concerns.
— We have been working in recent weeks with the authorities of Poland and Ukraine in order to find solutions, — RIA Novosti quotes Adin Valean's statement.
Earlier, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki promised that he would seek from the European Commission a return to the permit system for Ukrainian carriers.
Recall that Polish carriers began blocking checkpoints on the border with Ukraine in early November. Later, farmers from Poland joined them. They demand the restoration of the previously canceled permit system for Ukrainian commercial carriers with exceptions for humanitarian aid and supplies for Ukrainian troops, and the suspension of licenses for companies established in Ukraine after February 2022.
Due to the blockade, the queue at the Ukrainian-Polish border reaches 50 kilometers. According to some media reports, two Ukrainian drivers have already died in it.
