Starting February 24, 2026, vehicle border crossings on the Estonian-Russian border will switch to daytime operation, Trans.ru reports, citing the Estonian public broadcaster ERR. According to the Estonian government's decision, the crossings will be open only 12 hours a day, with no traffic at night.
Key points of the changes:
• Affected crossings: The restrictions will apply to the Luhamaa (Shumilkino) and Koidula (Kunichina Gora) border crossings.
• Duration: The restrictions are being introduced temporarily for three months, but authorities are not ruling out an indefinite extension.
• Reasons: Redistribution of personnel to strengthen controls at other border sections and a general decrease in traffic due to sanctions.
Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal emphasized that customs control will be fully implemented during daytime hours. Travelers are advised to plan their trips in advance, taking into account the 12-hour operating hours of the checkpoint.
