Traditionally, the three main exporters of perfumery in Russia were France, Lithuania and Germany, but in 2022 last in the top 3 was replaced by Spain, and in 2023 – Poland, RIA Novosti reports, citing information and open data.
The total volume of perfume supplies to Russia by the end of 2023 amounted to more than 516 million dollars in value terms. Lithuania became the main supplier, exporting almost a third of the perfume to the Russian Federation - for more than 165 million dollars. The top three suppliers also included Poland with an export volume of $ 64 million and France with almost $58 million. These countries accounted for more than half (55.6%) of perfume supplies to Russia. While the three main exporters of perfume in Russia to 2022 were France, Lithuania and Germany, periodic changing places in the main three.
This is followed by Italy and Spain, from which Russia last year bought perfumes for 52 and 39 million dollars, respectively. Germany ($25.5 million), the Czech Republic ($23 million), Latvia ($19.6 million), Turkey ($17 million) and Kazakhstan ($15.2 million) are also in the top ten. In total, the top ten suppliers of perfumes in the Russian Federation accounted for 93% of supplies, or 480 million dollars.
It is noteworthy that since the pre-sanction year 2021, among the top ten, supplies to Russia have grown the most from Turkey and Kazakhstan - almost 3 times in two years, as well as from Italy, Lithuania and the Czech Republic - about 2 times. But the most noticeable drop in supplies among the top 10 occurred in Germany - by 5 times, France - by 26%, Spain - by 20% and Latvia - by 13%.
Among other suppliers of perfumes to Russia in two years, the strongest growth was shown by exports from Slovenia - 394 times, up to 13 million dollars, South Korea - 7 times, up to 1.7 million dollars, Thailand - 72 times, up to 6.8 million, Uzbekistan - 19 times, up to 117 thousand dollars, Armenia - 11 times, up to 1.1 million dollars, and China - 4 times, up to 2.7 million dollars. Also, supplies from Malaysia increased from almost zero values - up to 913 thousand dollars, Austria - up to 36.6 thousand dollars and Morocco - up to 18 thousand dollars.
On the contrary, Belgium reduced its perfume supplies to Russia the most - by 954 times, to 52 thousand dollars, Azerbaijan - by 40 times, to 1.7 thousand dollars, the USA - by 28 times, to 488 thousand, Slovakia - by 22 times, to 31 thousand dollars, Great Britain - by 11 times, to 747 thousand, Bahrain - 8 times, up to 4.5 thousand, Switzerland - 6 times, up to 308 thousand, and Finland - 4 times, up to 96 thousand dollars. And the Netherlands practically stopped supplies altogether - in two years they collapsed 12.5 thousand times - from almost $ 2 million to $ 155 thousand.
