Latvia increased the import of Russian grain by almost 40% from January to March 2024. This is reported by TASS with reference to the State Revenue Service of the republic.
According to the Service, during the first quarter Latvia imported 158.3 thousand tons of grain from the Russian Federation, which is 39.8% more compared to the same period in 2023.
At the same time, imports decreased in monetary terms - the cost of imported grain amounted to €27 million, which is 6.2% less than in the same period of 2023. The total volume of imports was dominated by corn (136.5 thousand tons). Wheat and rye accounted for 17.2 thousand tons, barley - 4.4 thousand tons.
After legal procedures, grain from the Russian Federation, which entered Latvia, receives the status of an EU product. It can stay in the country or move duty-free across the European Community.
