The trade balance between Greece and Russia remained negative in March 2024, imports from Russia decreased by 33.3% compared to March 2023, exports to Russia fell by 5.3%.
This is reported by the information portal Bankingnews.gr with reference to data from the Greek statistical service Elstat, writes TASS.
According to the portal, bilateral trade continues to be conducted with a large deficit to the detriment of Greece, despite a decrease in imports from the Russian Federation. In March, the cost of imports from Russia decreased to €140.8 million, which is 33.3% less than in the same month of 2023 (€211.2 million). The value of exports from Greece to Russia in March reached €7.3 million, which is 5.3% less than in March 2023 (€7.7 million). The trade balance between Greece and Russia was negative in March, with a deficit of €133.5 million. The main import item to Greece was hydrocarbons.
In total, in the first quarter of 2024, the value of Greek imports from Russia amounted to €281.2 million, which is 72.9% less than in January - March 2023 (€1.039 billion). The value of exports from Greece to Russia in the first quarter amounted to €21.5 million, which is 24.1% less than in the same period of 2023 (€28.3 million). The trade balance between Greece and Russia in the first quarter of 2024 continued to remain negative, with a deficit of €259.7 million.
According to Elstat, the total value of Greece's imports from Russia in 2023 amounted to €2.446 billion, which is 73.8% less than in 2022 (€9.334 billion). Exports to Russia in 2023 amounted to €96.3 million, which is 38.4% less than in 2022 (€156.4 million). The trade balance between Greece and Russia in 2023 was negative, with a deficit of €2.349 billion.
