Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan expect to switch to the electronic exchange of permits for international road transport by 2026, Trans.ru reports, citing the Kazakh Ministry of Transport. This will facilitate the growth of freight traffic not only between the two countries but also along the Trans-Caspian Route, which connects Asian and European countries, bypassing Russia.
The 21st meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation was held in Baku, where the parties discussed transport issues, including the future development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR).
Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan, which are key points along the route, are interested in its further development. The parties expect to switch to the electronic exchange of permits for road freight transport (e-Permit) by 2026, as some of the freight traffic between the countries is transported across the Caspian Sea by road and ferry. This transition will reduce administrative costs, expedite the issuance of permits, and thereby increase the number of cargo flights.
To develop this transport corridor, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan also agreed to continue digitalizing logistics and implement joint projects to build new vessels for the Caspian Sea.
