The Parliament of Kazakhstan has ratified a protocol that changes the status of two automobile checkpoints on the border with Uzbekistan — "Syrdarya/Malik" and "Virgin/Ok oltin."
Now they will become multilateral (open to carriers from third countries) and will switch to round-the-clock operation.
• The Syrdarya/Malik checkpoint will accept passenger cars and empty trucks.
• Tselinny checkpoint/Ok Oltin will be opened for any kind of transport, including bulky and heavy trucks.
All 7 automobile crossings between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan will become round-the-clock and international.
The new regime will work after the document is ratified by the Uzbek side. In addition, reconstruction is planned at the checkpoints to prepare the infrastructure for the growth of transit traffic.
