The Rosselkhoznadzor appealed to the competent authorities of the EU countries with a request to strengthen control over roses of Ecuadorian and Dutch origin shipped to Russia in connection with the identification of numerous violations of phytosanitary requirements in the supply of flowers. The decision was made in order to prevent the introduction and spread of quarantine facilities with infected flowers on the eve of the pre-holiday seasonal spring receipts, according to the agency's website.
In the first months of this year, the detection of quarantine objects in Ecuadorian and Dutch roses, certified by government agencies of European countries, took on a systematic character.
According to the Rosselkhoznadzor, earlier the Service had already sent an appeal to these authorities with a request to conduct an official investigation and take urgent phytosanitary measures for all identified cases of violations of international and Russian phytosanitary requirements for the supply of cut flowers to Russia.
However, the competent authorities of European countries do not respond to the notifications of the Rosselkhoznadzor, and violations of Russian and international phytosanitary requirements continue, the agency clarifies.
41% of Ecuadorian and Dutch roses arrive in Russia through the territory of the EU states, in more than 100 cases infected with quarantine facilities for the EAEU member states.
Infected flowers pose a serious danger to greenhouse complexes developing in Russia, as quarantine facilities imported with Ecuadorian and Dutch roses are the main carriers of a number of the most harmful viruses for tomatoes, peppers, lettuce, peanuts and a number of flower plants. Crop losses of tomatoes and peppers can reach 100%, lettuce and peanuts – 80%.
