The Lithuanian National Security Commission proposes to stop the movement of goods, transport and people through the border points "Lavorishkes" (from the Belarusian side "Kotlovka") and "Raigardas" ("Privalka"), the press service of the department reported on Tuesday, Sputnik writes.
It is noted that this proposal arose from the Lithuanian side after consideration of proposals from institutions aimed at reducing the risks associated with an increase in transit flows from Belarus through Lithuania, the activities of the security and intelligence services of the neighboring country, as well as control over the transportation of sanctioned goods and contraband.
The head of the National Crisis Management Center Vilmantas Vitkauskas told the media that the checkpoints are planned to be closed from March 1.
The crossings will be closed not only to motor vehicles, but also to cyclists and pedestrians.
In addition, it is proposed to consider proposals on restrictions on passengers exiting trains and boarding them on trains that pass through the Ken railway checkpoint (territory of Lithuania).
NSK also proposed to gradually reduce the number of permits issued to Belarusian and Lithuanian organizations that carry out regular international bus passenger transportation.
The final decision on this issue will have to be made by the Lithuanian Government.
