A section of the highway to the cargo terminal of the Zabaikalsk International Automobile Checkpoint (MAPP) will be built in the Trans-Baikal Territory. A two-year construction contract has already been signed, the press service of the FDA Rosavtodor reports.
The section km 484 – km 486 will be built parallel to the existing entrance to the checkpoint on the A-350 Chita – Zabaikalsk highway – the border with China.
"The construction of an entrance to the cargo terminal will allow separating cargo and passenger flows, which will contribute to improving traffic safety and the capacity of the highway and the border checkpoint," said Azamat Ilimbetov, head of the Zabaikalie Uprdor.
The two-kilometer section of the highway will have 4 lanes and stationary electric lighting. The construction provides for a 112-seat parking lot, an observation deck at the beginning of the site with a stele and an information stand.
In addition, the contract provides for the installation of elements of an intelligent transport system – dynamic information boards, variable information signs, a traffic control post, video surveillance and a meteorological monitoring complex. The contractor must complete the entire range of work by November 2025.
Zabaikalsk checkpoint is the largest automobile checkpoint on the border with China, an important transport and logistics hub of Russia in the East. In total, during 2023, about 139 thousand heavy trucks passed through the Zabaikalsk MAPP, while the number of special equipment imported from China increased.
It should be noted that the reconstruction of the Zabaikalsk MAPP itself will also begin in the near future, this will increase its capacity by 5.5 times to 2,400 vehicles per day (including 1,600 trucks). The development of the transport infrastructure will make it possible to serve the growing traffic and ensure the effective operation of the MAPP.
