The new route along the Northern Sea Route has been launched by the logistics operator Business Lines. Now goods from Asian countries will be directly delivered to the port of St. Petersburg via the Arctic Ocean. Kommersant writes about this, referring to information from the company's press service.
The message clarifies that the direction has allowed to reduce the delivery time of goods by 10 days — up to 25 days, because now it is possible to avoid transport delays on the Trans-Siberian railway.
Modernization of technologies and improvement of navigation conditions in the Arctic served to develop the new route, the company also noted. Now specially prepared vessels can overcome ice up to two meters thick — this allows safe passage along the Northern Sea Route even in winter.
According to the company's statistics, 70% of all shipments in the first half of 2024 are allocated to imports from China, 60% of which are delivered to the European part of the country. Most often they order spare parts, industrial and electronic equipment.
Earlier, Kommersant-SPb wrote that a channel for the delivery of explosives and detonators in parcels from Europe was closed in St. Petersburg.
