Russian Transport Minister Andrei Nikitin and Astrakhan Region Governor Igor Babushkin discussed the development of the region's transport infrastructure, including the modernization of the Karauzek automobile border crossing on the border with Kazakhstan, according to Rosgranstroy.
The facility was included in the list of 10 priority checkpoints (out of 30 existing ones) whose development was approved by a bilateral plan in November 2025.
Major changes:
• Throughput capacity will increase to 2,000 vehicles per day (730,000 per year).
• Truck inspection time will be reduced to 10 minutes.
In 2027, the checkpoint will be equipped with a modern portal inspection system to expedite all procedures.
