After Finland announced the closure of border posts on the border with Russia, traffic across the Estonian-Russian border increased from 2,000 to 5,000 people. This was announced by Eva Kalmus, head of the Border Department of the Estonian Police and Border Guard Department.
The Department notes that the Estonian border is crossed mainly by ordinary citizens for private reasons, as well as employees of foreign missions and their relatives.
There were transit flows of goods across the Finnish border with Russia, and after the checkpoint was closed, cargo flows will go through Estonia, according to the Finnish customs department.
Earlier, we recall, Russian cargo carriers noted that they had changed the Finnish route to other destinations without losses.
Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsakhkna said that Estonia is ready to close the border if necessary.
Recall that due to the flow of migrants, the Finnish government completely closed the border with Russia until December 13. But Helsinki admits that if the threat is reduced, it may open earlier.
