A new two-kilometer stretch of road leading to the Zabaykalsk vehicle border crossing point—the largest on the Russia-China border—has been put into operation in the Zabaykalsky Krai region. The road was built parallel to the existing access route at kilometers 484–486 of the A-350 federal highway (Chita – China border), according to Rosgranstroy (the Federal State Institution for the Construction and Operation of Border Crossing Facilities).
The project was implemented as part of the «Infrastructure for Life» national project. Its primary objective is to separate freight and passenger vehicle traffic, enhance safety, and significantly reduce congestion in the border zone.
The road features two traffic lanes, expanding to four near the crossing point, and includes a parking area for 100 vehicles, complete with sanitary facilities. The project also involved the installation of 5.4 km of lighting, 1.8 km of sidewalks, and a modern intelligent transport system, including surveillance cameras, a meteorological monitoring station, information displays, and traffic counters.
The construction of this road is closely linked to a large-scale modernization of the terminal itself, carried out under the "Efficient Transport System" national project. While nearly 290,000 vehicles crossed the border last year, the completion of the first phase of the project will increase the crossing point’s capacity to 2,400 vehicles and 20,200 people per day. This phase includes the construction of 108 new buildings and structures.
