The trade turnover between Tajikistan and Russia in monetary terms increased by 29.5% last January compared to January last year. The total volume of mutual trade for the month amounted to more than $144 million, TASS reports, citing data from the Statistics Agency under the President of Tajikistan.
According to the agency's report, imports from Russia to Tajikistan in January amounted to more than $138 million, exports to Russia - $5.3 million. Among the CIS countries in January, Russia took the first place in terms of trade turnover with Tajikistan after Kazakhstan, the volume of trade with which amounted to about $82.3 million, decreasing by 18.3% year-on-year. In addition, Tajikistan increased trade volume with Belarus by 38.8% and with neighboring Uzbekistan by 35.6% in January.
Among all the countries with which Tajikistan traded in January, Russia took second place after China - trade turnover with it increased by 44.7% year-on-year and amounted to more than $154.6 million. At the same time, the Russian Federation overtook China in terms of share in the total volume of imports to Tajikistan: goods from Russia accounted for 28.4% of all imported into the republic, Chinese goods - 27.6%. At the same time, China has become Tajikistan's main export partner - 24.2% of all Tajik goods sold abroad were sent there.
By the end of 2023, Tajikistan's trade turnover with other countries amounted to more than $8.3 billion, which became a historical record. Last year, the Russian Federation became the main trading partner of the republic, trade turnover increased by 2.5%, amounting to $1.8 billion, which is also the largest indicator in the history of trade relations between the two states.
