The Association of Winegrowers and Winemakers of Russia (AVVR) called for the establishment of import duties of 200% for wine from NATO countries. This was told to RIA Novosti with reference to the executive secretary of the association Alexey Plotnikov.
"We decided to appeal again to the government and the State Duma with a request to strengthen measures to protect the Russian market and send the position of the AWB to the government and the expert council of the State Duma Committee on Economic Policy, including: according to the establishment of import duties for wine, sparkling wine, fortified wine from NATO countries at 200%," the agency quotes Plotnikov as saying.
In addition, the association proposed to abolish the preferential regime of import duties for wine from Georgia.
In July 2023, the Russian government increased duties on wine from "unfriendly" countries. Thus, the duty rate was increased from 12.5% to 20%, but not less than $1.5.
