In January – May 2024, companies from the Russian Federation increased the supply of fertilizers to EU countries by 70% at once in annual terms - up to 1.9 million tons, Moskovsky Komsomolets writes.
According to the European Statistical Agency, the sharp increase in purchases is explained by the fact that it is much more profitable than its own production due to expensive gas.
Europeans also increased imports of Russian nitrogen fertilizers – this figure increased by 39% year-on-year in five months to 1.1 million tons.
The largest buyers of Russian fertilizers were Poland – 467.7 thousand tons (24% of the total supply), France (12%), Germany (11%), as well as Italy (10%).
