The trade turnover between Russia and Iran in 2023 amounted to just over $4 billion, Interfax writes, referring to statements by Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak.
"This is slightly lower in relation to the level of 2022. The year 2022 was a record year - almost $5 billion, and was mainly due to the large volume of trade in agricultural products, which was a record in that period. (...) We certainly have the potential to increase trade turnover. In almost every field of goods and services. Work is underway, barriers are being removed. There are opportunities to develop trade not only in agricultural products, but also in the energy sector, in the sector of petrochemical, mechanical engineering, and processing. I am sure that trade turnover will increase between our countries," he said.
The IPC materials report that the trade turnover between the countries decreased by 17.3% in 2023. Exports from Russia decreased by 27.1% to $2.7 billion, imports from Iran increased by 15.8% to $1.29 billion.
