The trade turnover between Russia and Japan fell by 45.2% in January compared to the same month last year and amounted to 101.403 billion yen (about $676.1 million). This is reported by TASS, referring to statistical data published by the Japanese Ministry of Finance.
Imports from Russia, which account for more than 80% of trade turnover, fell by 38.9%. This is primarily due to a decrease in imports of liquefied natural gas by 7.2% and coal by 90.7%. Energy resources account for more than 75% of Japan's total imports from Russia.
At the same time, Japan increased grain imports from Russia by 110.5% in January, and fish and fish products by 16.9%. Fish and fish products account for 11.7% of Japanese imports from Russia. The volume of imports of Russian vegetables remained unchanged. Purchases of non-ferrous metal ore decreased by 92.9%, non-ferrous metals - by 84%, iron and steel - by 52.3%, medical devices - by 96.6%.
Exports to Russia, which account for less than 20% of trade turnover, fell by 65.8%. This is mainly due to a 33% reduction in the supply of passenger cars to Russia. This category accounts for more than 60% of Japan's total exports to Russia.
