Effective October 14, 2026, Turkish customs authorities have tightened transit regulations for tractor trucks transported as goods. Now, tractor trucks under their own power can only enter the country through Ro-Ro ports. Land border crossings for such vehicles are now prohibited, with the only exception being trucks transported on specialized car carriers, according to BAMAP.
Special requirements apply to transit to Iran, Afghanistan, and Central Asian countries (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan). If the final destination is in these countries, tractors arriving at Ro-Ro ports cannot continue their journey within Turkey under their own power. For onward transportation to the border, they must be loaded onto suitable car carriers.
Furthermore, documentation controls have been tightened. Carriers are required to indicate the actual country of destination and the corresponding customs authority on TIR carnets or transit declarations. Any inconsistencies in the data or attempts to indicate Turkey as a fictitious destination to circumvent regulations will result in refusal of clearance. Operators are advised to check the accuracy of declarations in advance and, if necessary, arrange for the transport of trucks by car carriers.
