In the Murmansk region this year, spring restrictions for heavy trucks will begin to take effect on April 30. The order of the Ministry of Transport and Road Management of the region was published on the website of Murmanskavtodor, the Association of International Automobile Carriers reports.
According to the document, spring restrictions for heavy trucks on regional or intermunicipal highways in 2024 in the Murmansk region will be in effect from April 30 to May 29. The measures will affect vehicles (with or without cargo) with a mass of more than 6 tons per axle.
At the same time, time restrictions will not apply to a number of vehicles, provided that the car is not a heavyweight. The list of transportation exceptions includes international cargo transportation, buses, transportation of food, animals, medicines, fuel (gasoline, diesel fuel, marine fuel, jet fuel, heating oil, gaseous fuel, coal, firewood), seeds, fertilizers, mail, transportation of goods in case of emergency, transportation of road materials and equipment, as well as vehicles of the authorities, which by law have military service.
Traffic restrictions are introduced to ensure the safety of roads in conditions of reduced load-bearing capacity of structural elements of highways during the spring flood.
Spring restrictions for heavy trucks are a traditional measure aimed at preserving the road network. Since 2018, such restrictions have not been introduced on federal highways. Regional and local roads are closed for "drying" in almost all regions of the country every year – the duration of restrictions and permissible loads in the regions are different and depend on the climate, terrain features, flood passage and other things.
