Since December 4, the import of vegetables and fruits from several regions of Moldova to Russia is prohibited. The Rosselkhoznadzor informed about this.
Similar measures were introduced in 2022. According to the agency, then, due to the unfavorable phytosanitary situation in the territory of the republic, the import of quarantined products from the following areas was limited: Novoanensky, Bessarabsky, Brichansky, Kagulsky, Kantemirsky, Kalarashsky, Kaushansky, Chimishliysky, Kriuliansky, Dondyushansky, Drokievsky, Edinetsky, Falesti, Floresti, Glodyansky, Hincesti, Yalovensky, Leovsky, Nisporensky, Oknitsky, Orheevsky, Rezinsky, Rishkansky, Syngereysky, Soroksky, Strashensky, Sholdanesti, Stefan-Vodsky, Tarakliysky, Telenesti and Ungen, and also from Gagauzia and the municipalities of Chisinau, Balti.
As stated in the official message of the Rosselkhoznadzor, the reason for the ban is the ongoing systematic detection of quarantine objects in vegetables and fruits that can cause multibillion-dollar damage to Russian agricultural production, as well as the lack of responses from the Moldovan competent authority to the Rosselkhoznadzor's notes.
According to the Moldovan Food Safety Agency, they received several notifications about problems with the quality of crop products exported to Russia before the restrictions were imposed. At the same time, Moldova considers the ban unjustified. "The decision of the Russian authorities contradicts international phytosanitary principles and is not based on any real arguments," the Agency said in an official statement.
