Today, there are only five road checkpoints out of 26 operating on the Belarusian border: two each on the Polish and Lithuanian routes and one on the Latvian. And at the remaining checkpoints, EU customs officers deliberately restrain cargo flows. Vladimir Orlovsky, Chairman of the State Customs Committee, told how the work of customs has changed after the closure of checkpoints on the border with the EU. His words are conveyed by BELTA.
According to Vladimir Orlovsky, the closure of checkpoints and the deliberate obstruction by neighboring countries of the movement of Belarusian goods, of course, changed the situation at customs.
"We are changing our technologies and approaches in this regard. The most important thing is the maximum support for our enterprises, we help to change logistics to the East. Logistics has become more complex and multi-stage. We are rebuilding our technologies so that we can process goods from any customs point where there is a free customs officer. We use these technologies all the time. Moreover, if there is a need for registration at night, we have round-the-clock points that process any cargo. Customs has become more mobile and more accessible for our business," stressed the Chairman of the SCC.
During a conversation with journalists, Vladimir Orlovsky noted that this year the freight traffic in the eastern direction has increased fourfold. Based on this trend, customs officers have restructured their work and now provide prompt clearance of goods from anywhere.
"Business has shifted to the eastern direction - both exports and imports. There has simply been a substitution of sales markets, manufacturers of equipment, raw materials and components that our enterprises need: they are imported from friendly countries. Therefore, logistics has been rebuilt, and we are rebuilding in this regard. Such work helps to fill the budget in full," he stressed.
